Short Story 2

(For our final assignment we had to create a short story. This one is my original draft, the one I submitted as my final assignment is titled “Jenny’s Journey” (Short Story 1) that I shared on my page)

Life with Teddy

Soft music began to slowly fill the room, signalling it was eight am and time to get up for the day. However, Jenny wasn’t ready to wake up yet, she had finally fallen asleep three hours ago after a long night of agony and several trips to the bathroom. She didn’t want to leave the comfort of her bed, moving caused her pain. It was like this every day for the last four years, ever since she was diagnose with Endometriosis at the young age of nineteen.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the familiar sound of claws on her bedroom floor, she turned her head to watch Teddy walk up the ramp and onto her bed. She had found the perfect way to get her dog up onto her bed without her having to lift him or him jumping on the bed, both of which caused her pain. Teddy knew the routine, he got down on his belly and slowly crawled his way up to Jenny. Once he had his head beside her, she carefully rolled over onto her side to cuddle her dog, this was the best part of the morning. If it wasn’t for her best friend, she wouldn’t get out of bed at all.

Three years ago Jenny was really struggling with her illness and feeling depressed. She could no longer work due to the pain and her friends had stopped talking to her the year before that. Moving around caused her a great deal of pain so she decided that she was going to stay in bed as much as possible. She bought a small TV for her room and only left the bed to go to the bathroom, to grab food or go to her doctor appointments. After a couple months, she began to experience pain in her feet and legs when she was standing for half an hour and after two hours she needed to sit down. When she started to experience pain around her hips two months later, she realized her new pains were from lack of movement. That made her feel even worse, moving was now agony, she didn’t know how she was going to get out of this vicious cycle she was in. One night when she was up late because of the pain, she decided to see if anyone was online in her internet support group. She ended up pouring her heart out to a member and afterwards, they suggest she get a pet to help her stay active and to help with the loneliness she was feeling. Jenny liked the idea and began to research smart dog breeds, she wanted one that would be able to fetch things for her if she needed it.

A week later Jenny had responded to an ad about English Setter puppies for sale and was now headed over to look at the puppies. She was able to find the house no problem, there was pen in the front yard that had 5 puppies playing around in it and a couple kids squealing in delight at the puppies piled onto each other. There were some adults off to the side quietly talking to themselves so Jenny decided to head over to the puppies and see if there was one she wanted to take home.

Chad had been talking to some people that were interested in buying one of his puppies when he first saw Jenny. Her fiery red hair appeared incandescent in the sun as she bent to pick up one of the puppies. He couldn’t help but smile as the puppy started to lick her face like it was covered in food and wiggle it’s body in excitement as she held the pup close. Chad excused himself and headed over to her to introduce himself and see if she had any questions. Her green eyes, as deep and endless as space met his and for a moment his breath caught in his throat, she had to be one of the most beautiful women he had seen.

“It looks like he really likes you a lot” Chad commented as the puppy cuddled up to her.

“Good cause I think I really like him a lot too” she happily replied as she continued to pet the puppy in her arms.

Chad decided to give her his number in case she had any problems but secretly he also hoped she would call to hang out. Jenny wasn’t like any other girl he had met, she seemed more laid back and she didn’t dress to impress, she wore what was comfortable and the confidence she had in that was hotter than a girl in a skin tight short black dress.

Jenny never regretted her decision that day, she loved her new best friend Teddy and was starting to get into a serious relationship with Chad, the guy she bought the puppy from. Now she had a reason to get out of bed everyday even though it hurt, Teddy was worth it. He never complained if she kept ranting about how much pain she was in and if she passed out on the bathroom floor after a long night of throwing up, he would cuddle up beside her. He was always there to comfort her when she needed it, she was never alone again.

Sometimes

(Poem shared in college course)

Sometimes things don’t go, after all,
from bad to worse. Some years, muscadel
faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don’t fail.
Sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.

A people sometimes will step back from war,
elect an honest man, decide they care
enough, that they can’t leave some stranger poor.
Some men become what they were born for.

Sometimes our best intentions do not go
amiss; sometimes we do as we meant to.
The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow
that seemed hard frozen; may it happen for you.

Jenny’s Journey

Soft music began to slowly fill the room, signalling it was eight am and time to get up for the day. However, Jenny wasn’t ready to wake up, she had finally fallen asleep three hours ago after a long night of agony and several trips to the bathroom. She didn’t want to leave the comfort of her bed, moving caused her pain. It was like this every day for the last five years, ever since she was diagnose with Endometriosis at the young age of nineteen.

Jenny was really struggling with her health and feeling depressed. It had been two years since she had to stop working due to the unpredictability of her illness. Her friends slowly pulled away, each cancelled plan was a nail in the coffin until they stopped talking to her all together last year. Moving around was starting to cause her too much pain so she decided that she was going to stay in bed. She bought a small TV for her room and only left her bed to go to the bathroom, grab food or go to doctors. After a couple months, she began to experience pain in her feet and legs when she was standing for half an hour and after two hours she needed to sit down. Jenny wasn’t like any other girl he had met, she seemed more laid back and she didn’t dress to impress, she wore what was comfortable and the confidence she had in that was hotter than a girl in a skin tight short black dress.

They ended up going on dates, often watching movies on Jenny’s couch because she wasn’t feeling well enough to go out like the plans originally were. Jenny was starting to hate that they had to keep changing their plans but Chad reassured her it’s ok. One night Chad showed up to take her out to dinner but found her crying in agony on the bathroom floor. He scooped down to pick her up, carried her to the couch and sat down so that she was still wrapped in his arms.

“It’s ok if we stay in tonight” Chad tried to reassure her.

“I hate how we can never do what we planned, we can never plan to go on a vacation or anything!” she sobbed into his chest. “I don’t know how you can stand the inconstancy all the time”

Chad hugged her tight and told her how his Dad was diagnosed with cancer when he was a kid. He learned that plans change, some of his best memories involved plans changing. Life is unpredictable but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. Chad introduced Jenny to “Random Adventures”, when she had a break in pain, they would jump in the car and drive. At first Jenny was skeptical but they got the car ready anyways: a puke bucket, a role of toilet paper, bottled water and some pain medications. After a couple successful “Random Adventures” Jenny wasn’t feeling as guilty about having to cancel plans when she was unwell.

A year later and Jenny never regretted her decision to get a dog and was starting to get into a serious relationship with Chad. Now she had a reason to get out of bed even though it hurt. Teddy, her dog, never complained if she kept ranting about how much pain she was in. If she passed out on the bathroom floor after a long night of throwing up, he would cuddle up beside her. He was always there to comfort her when she needed it, she was never alone again.

Sonnet 31, Astrophil & Stella

By: Philip Sidney (1554–1586)

With how sad steps, O Moon, thou climb’st the skies!
How silently, and with how wan a face!
What, may it be that even in heav’nly place
That busy archer his sharp arrows tries!
Sure, if that long-with love-acquainted eyes
Can judge of love, thou feel’st a lover’s case,
I read it in thy looks; thy languish’d grace
To me, that feel the like, thy state descries.
Then, ev’n of fellowship, O Moon, tell me,
Is constant love deem’d there but want of wit?
Are beauties there as proud as here they be?
Do they above love to be lov’d, and yet
Those lovers scorn whom that love doth possess?
Do they call virtue there ungratefulness?

Theme: Coping with Stress

Stress has been in my life since I was 12yrs old & my younger sister was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at age 5.

A couple years later I decided instead of feeling sad, I would turn it into anger. I would fuel that anger in my head & stay in state of anger for most of the time. In 2009 I decided to put an end to living like that. I was at the point where getting angry made me throw up. It’s been hard to let go of all that anger but today I am a happier person.

Don’t get me wrong, I still get stressed out & angry but I know how to handle it in healthy ways. I did some counseling a couple years back to get some tools to deal with life & they have helped tons.

I have always used music as a way to deal with my emotions, if I’m mad, I either find music that is hard or I listen to happy upbeat music, it depends on how mad I am. If I do listen to something hard, it’s only for a bit & then I move on to other music. Singing along & dancing helps too.

Nature is another way I use to destress but due to health issues, I can’t always get out in nature.

College Assignment 3

(Poem for FutureLearn course. Wrote this when I was 16)

Colours

Colours flow through my head,

Purples, reds and blues,

Coming in a flood of colours,

Trying to think of the best collaboration of colours,

Light starts to drip into the room through the window,

A beautiful gold with a dab of sparkle,

The silver moon and stars have gone away for now,

I go to the window and then it hits me,

The most beautiful sight ever.

The dew dripping off the trees,

And in the distance looking towards the horizon,

The most wonderful sight of purple, reds and blues,

And more shades in between.

I take a picture with my minds eye,

I rush over to my canvass,

Two hours later a masterpiece is born,

I smile with great pride at the beauty of my art.

I bow my head and thank God for such a beautiful place to live,

A tear escapes me as I think of how much it is getting worse,

And how all the beauty is going away forever and I cry with God,

And all the angels who weep for the beauty will soon be gone,

The grey dullness will fill the sight and there will be no more sunrises,

Or sunsets, or see the beauty of dew dripping off the lushes green trees.

I will make sure that I capture as much beauty that God has given us,

For when that day comes when there is no more beauty on this Earth,

I will still have my painting to look at,

Those beautiful glimpses of heaven.

College Assignment 2

(Poem for FutureLearn course. Wrote this when I was 16)

You blame yourself constantly.

It is not your fault.

You had no control in the matter.

What happened, happened.

You apologize to your loved ones.

It’s ok, it is not your fault.

If you could have controlled it, it wouldn’t have happened.

It’s in the past and the past you can’t change, no matter what.

The only one you can blame is life.

Well just to let you know, I am still here.

I still care and I still love you.

You can’t get rid of me or make me stop caring and loving you.

I said I was gonna be here for you and here I am.

You can’t see me but I am here.

Watching you,

Listening to you,

Caring for you,

Loving you,

Here I am, this is the way I am.

I am gonna be here till the end of time.

And till the end of your and I will watch you.

Hope you make the right choices,

Listening to you,

Caring for you,

And loving you.

I am here for you, don’t forget that.

Love forever!

God
